Our leadership team, expert advisors and board of directors are among experts in their field, and go through rigorous efforts to ensure we are providing the most accurate, and meaningful informative information that helps our customers discover and lead better lives.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be the trusted source for personal genetic information – to provide our customers with the most up-to-date, accurate, and meaningful information about their genetic risks, to help them understand and interpret the results, and assist them as they use this to eventually lead a better, fuller life.

Our Principles

To ensure that individuals understand the benefits, risks and limitations of our products and services, Smart Genetics takes the following position on genetic risk assessment:

It is not diagnostic.
Having a genetic variant associated with a particular disease does not mean a person has the disease.

It is not predictive.
Having a genetic variant associated with a particular disease does not mean a person will definitely develop the disease.

It should not interfere with a care or service.
The presence of a genetic variant associated with a particular disease should not be used to infringe on any individual’s access to care and services.

Confidential testing should be available.
Because of possible social consequences, confidential testing should be available, thereby giving the consumer the choice to share the fact of and results of their genetic risk assessment.

Pre-test education and post-test counseling should be provided.
Genetic risk assessment should be done with pre-test education and post-test counseling, which includes a full discussion of the implications of the test and provides the individual with all information necessary to make an informed decision.

Commitment to Quality

We strive to provide the best quality for our products and services. Our genetic tests are performed by CLIA certified laboratories, the highest standard for quality assurance among clinical laboratories. Congress established the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) in 1988 establishing quality standards for all laboratory testing to ensure the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results regardless of where the test was performed. More details are available at the FDA’s website.

Genetic risk information for our tests is disclosed by certified, disease-specific genetic counselors when appropriate.

Commitment to Privacy Your genetic information is your personal information. Smart Genetics is committed to maintaining your privacy.
